Acting Pantomime


Pantomime acting, or mime as it is sometimes called, is acting without words, conveying ideas and emotions simply by acting with the body and with facial expression .Acting pantomime requires a great deal of skill and training, as one can imagine by thinking of trying to convey feelings and ideas to someone simply by acting them out without the help of speech.

Occasionally in larger cities one can see pantomime acting on a street corner, with the mime totally concentrating on his/her acting performance with no direct attention to passersby. It is an amusing and sometimes disconcerting sight Sometimes gifted mimes perform their special kind of acting in theatres to appreciative audiences.

Because pantomime acting requires great conrol and concentration, as well as acting skills, it is often used in teaching acting classes. When one's acting can convey ideas without words, the addition of dialogue makes the acting doubly effective.

Pantomime acting is often used in schools where acting is being taught to children. Youngsters are very receptive to this approach to acting, and it helps to rid them of self-consciousness, Children are always ready to perform pantomimes in acting classes.

Because body language is so essential to effective acting in live theatre or films, learning the skills of pantomime acting is important to all woulld-be performers. Many famous clowns have relied on pantomime acting alone to capture audiences. One such incredible artist was Charlie Chaplin, whose wordless acting with body language and facial expression brought great fame and fortune.

Even in films and television performances of standard, scripted shows, pantomime acting can be an important element in a performance. Good comedians do not simply rely on lines to deliver comedic situations, but augment their vocal performances with pantomime acting, using gesture and facial expression as acting tools.It is often the physical aspect of acting which brings laughts. The same is true of performers acting in dramatic roles, depicting sad or tragid situations. It is the pantomime acting, gestures, expressions which enhance the performance and bring emotional response from the audience.

Panatomime acting in all its forms is an important element of any effective acting in live theatre, movies and television. Such acting is part of any accomplished performer's technique.
