Advertising Jobs

The field of advertising is very attractive to many young people planning a career. There are a variety of jobs within the advertising world, and advertising jobs can ultimately offer good income as young people move up the ladder. There are basically two areas which offer advertising jobs...advertising jobs in an advertising agency, and advertising jobs with the clients who employ advertising agencies. The types of advertising jobs available are more plentiful and varied in the large advertising agencies than in business organizations.

Typically, a reasonably large advertising agency offers a number of very different advertising jobs. Many young people aspire to creative work as either writers or artists, and one group of the advertising jobs in an agency offers opportunity in these areas. A new copywriter would typically begin working on smaller agency accounts and prove herself before securing an advertising job working on a major account. Only an experienced writer who has proven success on important accounts can move into an advertising job in an agency to with a major client.

A beginning artist who secures an advertising job with an agency will also begin working in the art studio on small accounts. Advertising jobs related to art may range from that of layout artist to photography to finshed art and a lot in between. An advertising job which acts as liaison and "mover" beween art, copy and account executives is a traffic job, which can be demanding and stressful at times.

An important position, or group of positions, among advertising jobs is that of the account executive, who is the primary contact with the client, and liaison between the client and members of the agency staff. This advertising job requires skill in personal relations and sales and is often a high paid position. It is not an advertising job for beginners.

Another highly important well paid position in advertising is that of creative director. This advertising job is central to the development of advertising campaigns for the agency's clients and is an advertising job to be coveted. The advertising job of creative director requires a creative talent to an extent, but more importantly the ability to recognize good concepts and supervise the expression of the concept by the art and copy departments. The advertising job of creative director is high on the list of important positions.

There are of course advertising jobs in any agency which are typical of jobs in almost any business, including executive assistants, accountants and office support personnel.

The primary advertising jobs in a business are those of advertising manager and an assistant, perhaps someone who does media studies, and their support staff. There are marketing and research positions which relate to advertising decisions. While marketing is certainly related to advertising, indeed dictates decisions related to advertising, jobs in marketing would not be strictly considered to be advertising jobs.
