A Touch of Italian in Your Diet


There are many ways to liven up your daily diet, and one of those ways is to add ethnic foods, exploring manus from around the world. Perhaps one of the easiest ways to add interest to your daily diet is to add a touch of Italian foods on a fairly regular basis.

Many people think of Italian food as being primarily spaghetti and other pasta dishes. This is far from true, and a diet can be made considerably more interesting by exploring a number of Italian dishes. Of course even with the inclusion of only vaarious forms of pasta, a diet can be enlivened by experimenting with a variety of sauces rather than merely picking a can of sauce off the shelf. One can experiment by creating one's own tomato sauce, adding herbs, grated cheeses, sausage or ground meats. Pesto sauce, using herbs and garlic a oil can be a delicious home made addition to the diet. With a single recipe book for Italian foods, one can create a number of great sauces to add spice to a diet which includes various forms of pasta.

Lasagna is another Italian favorite to include in a diet. Now it is possible to buy lasagna noodles which do not have to be precooked, but simply laid in the pan and the other ingredients added before baking, thus simplifying the addition of this dish to one's diet. Lasagne offers many possibilities in varying your diet, including ground beef, cheese, eggplant and mixed vegetables. Again, a good Italian cookbook will help to add great Italian dishes to your diet.

Antipasto, another Italian favorite can add great variety to your diet, and can even become the main course for lunch. This dish offers wide latitude in the choice of ingedientsto expand your diet...almost any type of food you could wish. Portabella - or other- mushrooms, plain or stuffed, cheeses, especially mozzaarella, cold cuts such as prosciutto or salami or ham, a variety of olives, slices of tomato and slivers of onion,smoked fish, all exciting additions to a diet.

There are many more possibilities for spicing up your diet with a touch of Italian cuisine. There is eggplant parmesan, a variety of delicious veal dishes, and many recipes for chicken and fish dishes to be found in an Italian cookbook.
