Diet for Weight Loss
There are innumerable plans for a weight loss diet, and many companies profit enormously from promoting programs and foods for weight reduction. Obesity has become a problem among both young and old, and many medical authorities recommend that society in general be aware of the need for greater weight control while maintaining a healthy diet. Some of the diets recommended for weight loss are extreme and should be avoided. No diet should eliminate important nutrients needed to maintain good health. A good approach to a weight loss diet is simply to reduce overall intake, and eliminate only harmful sugars, excessive fats and "white" carbohydrates, such as white flour, rice and potatoes. It has been revealed by some researchers that one of the keys to gaining weight is the fast consumption of food, which does not allow the body's control mechanisms to signal that the stomach is "full" and that sufficient calories have been consumed. Thus eating slowly and chewing food thoroughly will aid in weight control while on any diet. Some extreme weight loss diets recommend excessive amounts of one type of food, such as protein, thus upsetting the "balance" of a diet..If overdone, such a diet can result in kidney damage. In all cases, balance is important, as only a balanced diet will provide all of the elements needed to maintain good health. Whatever type of weight loss diet is considered, it is important to consume plenty of water, as this helps to flush away fat as weight is lost. It is also important to accompany any diet, regular or weight loss, with regular healthy exercise, such as walking and swimming.. When on a weight loss diet it is important to eat breakfast, not to skip this important meal as many do. Eating a good breakfast will maintain blood sugar at a proper level and prevent sudden urges to eat due to a low blood sugar condition. In all cases, a weight loss diet should include a variety of vegetables, low fat protein and either oats or whole grain rather than white flour products. There are a number of companies who have built a solid reputation for weight loss diets, and it is safe to diet according to their recommendations. In any case, do not create an extreme weight control diet yourself which may eliminate important healthy foods, such as leafy green vegetables and healthy proteins such as fish and turkey. Do not attempt to lose more than 2 lbs per week, but remain consistent in your combination of healthy diet and exercise. If you have a serious weight problem, consult your doctor before embarking on a weight loss diet.
