Healthy Diet Lunches
Many people, both children and adult workers, carry a lunch to work rather than buying lunch. It is important to maintain a healthy diet under these circumstances, which requires careful planning, buying and preparing the daily lunch. Of course the lunch diet will vary tremendously between, say, a child in second grade, a woman office worfker and a man doing heavy labor. And of course there is the whole area of special lunches if one is on a specific diet either for health purposes or for weight control. Do there is much to be considered when preparing healthy diet lunches. Depending in part on the breakfast one has, the lunch diet may vary according to content. Hopefully breakfast has included some protein, some fruit and grain, thus beginning the day with a balanced diet. Assuming this, the lunch diet can be reasonably light, but should include something from the primary food categories. A lunch diet for a young student might include a sandwich with whole grain bread, some protein, perhaps with some leaf lettuce. The healthy diet lunch should also include some fruit, such as apple or banana, perhaps raw vegetables such as carrot sticks, and a low-sugar cookie as dessert. Nutrition experts are now realizing that our children are eating much too much sugar, fat and heavy starches and are commending that schools who serve lunches should pay more attention to healthy, balanced diet. Often women office workers or whose with relatively sedentary jobs will minimize lunch, perhaps including in the lunch diet some yogurt and fruit. If the person is on a weight loss diet, lunch may be very minimal. It would be well to include some protein in such a diet lunch. Beverages, whether for children or adults, should not include high-sugar soft drinks, but rather fruit juice or milk or perhaps herb tea. Sugar is anathema to a healthy diet. If practical, a thermos might contain a healthy diet soup, vegetable or chicken, for a nourishing lunch. This could be good for a person doing outdoor work, particularly in cold weather. A healthy diet lunch for a construction worker, for example, might include two sandwiches with whole grain bread, made with meat or chicken, a vegetable soup and hot beverage.
