Fashion is all about what you wear and how you look. Fashion, by definition is the current custom in dress, manner or speech. So who dictates fashion and why is the whole fascinated by it? These are all relevant questions and deserve consideration. Because fashion becomes part of a culture. Fashion can be part of family culture or religious culture or national culture or counter culture. Fashion involves clothing, accessories, footwear, makeup, behavior and language. Fashion effects all of us beginning in our childhood.

Even the toys children play with are either fashionable or not. One's car can be fashionable. Definitely, the way one furnishes and decorates one's home is all about fashion, whether copied or original. We make a fashion statement by the we our homes look and by the way we look. Various groups in our society have a lot of influence in fashion, and sometimes current fashion is the re-visiting of a past fashion.

Professionals dictate a certain fashion, teens subscribe to a number of different fashion styles according to their social group, geographical location and period in time. There are stereotypical fashions that have become classics throughout recent history. In women's fashion, the basic black dress is a good example. In the working world, the suit and tie for men has survived many generations. In home decorating, fashion including a typical living room's furnishings exists of usually a couch, a couple of chairs, occasional tables and lamps. This, of course is in the Western world.

Even some foods become fashionable, take coffee, for instance. Certainly, coffee has been a standard part of millions of people's daily fare, but only in the last decade or so has coffee become the rage and fashion with coffee shops chains popping up on every corner and almost everybody participating in the fashionable way to order and drink their favorite coffee beverages.

So whether we like or not and whether we consciously participate in it or not, fashion is everywhere...
