Doing Catch and Release Fishing
Many fishermen are moving to catch and release fishing as the health of our fish populations swindle. If you don't need to eat the fish to live, then you might want to consider catch and release fishing. Catch and release fishing is fun and easy if you know a few of the basics so study up and then give catch and release fishing a try. The first thing to know about catch and release fishing is that it is possible to catch and release a fish without harming him too much. You just need to do your catch and release fishing in the least harmful way possible. This is made possible by doing a few simple things when catching and releasing your fish. When catch and release fishing, the first thing you should do is use barb-less hooks. Oh, I know, everybody thinks they need barbed hooks in order to catch fish, but some people now claim that you can actually catch more fish with barb-less hooks than with barbed hooks. And regardless, you must use barb-less hooks to do any successful catch and release fishing. Some people claim that a fish is more likely to spit out a barbed hook because it gets fat and thick at the barb and the at alerts them to reject it. When catch and release fishing, you need to use barb-lees hooks so the hook is more easily removed from the fish without causing it any undue damage. There is no point in catch and release fishing if you are releasing seriously injured fish who will just die in a matter of hours anyway because you have torn them all up inside ripping out the barbed hook that they swallowed. The other thing about hooks when doing catch and release fishing is to not use stainless steel hooks. If a fish swallows your hook when you are doing catch and release fishing you should just cut the line and leave the hook inside him as he will either get it out himself or be able to break it down, but he cant' do that with stainless steel. So when doing catch and release fishing, use only barb-less, non stainless steel hooks. Another important technique to use when doing catch and release fishing is to land the fish as soon as possible. This usually means using heavier tackle and maybe this will lessen the trill of the fight for you, but if you are doing catch and release fishing and you have a long battle with a fish and then finally land him and release him, he will probably die within the hour from the buildup of lactic acid in his muscles so when doing catch and release fishing, the quicker it is over, the better it will be for the fish. Also when doing catch and release fishing, it is best for the fish if you do not ever remove him from the water. Most hook extractions can take place while he is still in the water and then he can be released without ever leaving the water. When doing catch and release fishing, you want to be releasing healthy fish back into the water, not critically injured fish.
