Fishing Safety

Fishing is not considered a dangerous sport, but as with any outdoor activity, there are some dangers and fishing safety should always be considered. Fishing safety means preparing to stay safe while fishing and fishing safely. When fishing, you might run into bad weather, snakes, insects, too much exposure to the sun or you could be injured by the many sharp things involved in fishing like hooks or knives or outboard motor blades. Fishing can e great fun and safe too if fishing safety is given some consideration. fishing safety is especially important when children are involved so plan ahead and be a good fishing safety role model.

Any activity on or near the water can be dangerous. If you are fishing from a boat, most states require that you or at least anyone under a certain age wear a life jacket at all times. It is a good idea whether it is the law or not that all children aboard your boat wear a life jacket at all times. This fishing safety rule should apply to poor swimmers also. When fishing from a boat, it is always a wise idea to not fish alone because if you should be injured there would be no one there to help you. If you want to observe proper fishing safety when fishing from a boat, you should also always keep an eye on the weather. Electrical storms can come up suddenly and you should not be out on the water or on your boat. so if the weather begins to look threatening, head for shore.

One of the most important rules of fishing safety is when in doubt, wait it out. Do not go out on your boat in bad weather. Wait until it clears up. Another important rule of fishing safety for boaters is do not bring large fish like sharks, tuna or marlins onto your small boat. These large fish can be quite dangerous and cause significant damage to you and your boat. Remember that you are responsible for the safety of everyone on your boat so in addition to observing fishing safety rules, also observe all the rules of boating safety.

Fishing safety is an important topic and one which you should not take lightly. You need to be careful at all times while fishing so as not to be injured or cause injury others. Fishing safety means being mindful of slippery surfaces and always being careful with sharp hooks and where you are casting your bait. Fishing safety also means having a first aid kit on hand for emergencies and knowing at least the basics of first aid. By observing some fishing safety basics and alwyas using common sense, you can enjoy fishing safely.
