Fishing
Fishing can be a hobby, a sport, or occupation. Fishing often involves a passion for fishing probably because it takes time and patience to catch a fish. As a hobby, fishing can be pretty absorbing and can get pretty darn expensive. As a sport, fishing can have you traveling all over the world and winning some pretty great prizes and making some pretty great money too. As an occupation, fishing can find you subsistence fishing just about anywhere in the world, struggling from day-to-day to stay alive or you could be working on a big fishing trawler catching and processing tons of fish a day. Fishing is many different things, but they all have one thing in common, they all kill fish. Some people like to eat fish and some people don't. Those who do like to eat fish sometimes catch their own. They enjoy fishing as a hobby and they enjoy eating their catch. They go fishing in lakes, streams, rivers, ponds and the ocean. They go fishing and rafts, inner tubes, piers and the shore. They go fly fishing, and trolling, surf casting, netting and spearfishing. They go fishing for bass, trout, sailfish, swordfish, Marlin, shark and just about any other freshwater or saltwater fish you can name. They go fishing with the most expensive modern gear, tracking the fish with sonar and guiding their boats by satellite and they go fishing with a handmade spear or piece of string and a hook. They go fishing with fancy store-bought lures and they go fishing with worms they have dug from the ground themselves. It is speculated that fishing is an ancient activity dating back some 10,000 years. All civilizations used fishing to some extent or other to feed themselves. Shells and fishbones have been found among the remains of prehistoric people. And many methods for storing the catch from fishing have been devised. Salting, smoking and treating the fish catch with various agents have all been employed. Today, people of all types and from all walks of life go fishing. They go fishing for food and recreation. Young, old and people in between go fishing. Some catch and then release the fish and some keep them for eating. Fishing can be an engrossing sport or just an afternoon's pastime. Fishing can be a job or just a hobby. Some people have fond memories of going fishing with a grandfather or their big sister or some people find fishing as a hobby later in life, but no matter what takes you fishing, it is a relaxing and rewarding activity for anyone who likes to be around the water or likes to eat fish.
