Surf Fishing Tips
When we think about saltwater fishing, most of us picture people fishing from fancy charter boats. We see them fishing way out at sea and fishing close in along the coast, but we see them fishing from boats. Well, there is a whole group of saltwater fishermen who have no boats and maybe never set foot on a boat. These saltwater fishermen keep themselves busy on the beach surf fishing. Surf fishing involves casting your bait from shore beyond the breakers so you can catch some big saltwater fish. Those experienced at surf fishing, will move up and down the beach watching for where bait fish are running and waiting to see the bigger fish. Then and there that they start surf fishing. They use their ten and twelve foot fishing rods to cast their bait out as much as one hundred feet past the breakers in order to be where the big fish are feeding. This type of casting for surf fishing takes a lot of practice and the right equipment. Surf fishing rods come anywhere from six feet to twelve feet in length. They need to be big, strong and flexible in order to cast out far enough to get the big fish from shore. The reel used is usually a heavy duty bait and cast reel that can handle the work involve in surf fishing. The bait used is most often live bait of some sort. Surf fishing bait can be blood worms, squid or bait fish. The bait for surf fishing needs to be fresh as that is what the fish prefer. The old pros of surf fishing can really cast out a long way to reach where the big fish are and learning to do this can take years of practice, but don't let that stop you. You can get surf fishing instructions almost anywhere there is a coastline to fish. Local bait and tackle shops can advise you where to find a local surf fishing instructor. Most of these surf fishing instructors provide just about everything you need to try your hand at surf fishing. All you need to do is show up and be ready to learn. The great thing about surf fishing is that you don't need an expensive boat to go fishing. In fact you don't need any boat at all to go surf fishing. Where it is allowed, it can be helpful if you have a 4x4 to cruise up and down the beach on so you can go where the fish are and haul all of the necessary equipment, but it isn't absolutely necessary. All you rally need for surf fishing is a rod and reel, the necessary tackle and some fresh bait. You might want to bring along a knife and an bucket so you can prepare and haul the fish you are going to catch surf fishing home with you though.
