Learning math by rote memorization was boring. Many kids didn't learn the basics of math well because they were bored by all the drills. Math games build, strengthen and reinforce a number of essential skills and not all of them just math skills either. Math games develop the skill that is directly targeted by the math game. There are math games available for every math skill. There are math games available for every math skill. There are math games for basic, intermediate advanced math skills. Math games also help students develop critical thinking skills and math games also help students develop problem solving skills that are not related to the math at all. Math games that require the social skills of team work or cooperation help students develop communications skills and aid in character development. And since math games are competitive, they encourage students to learn how to find the correct answers quickly.

Math games encourage students to spend more time doing math and that is good. Students get involved in the math games and often practice the math skills outside of the classroom so that they will be better able to compete when they play the math games again. Many of the math games can be made from items the students already have in their home. Math games can be played with dice. Math games can be played with a deck of cards. bingo cards can be made at home for math games.

There are also many computer based math games available on the market. Parents can purchase software for learn at home fun with math games. And there are many, many websites on the internet offering free participation in math games. These websites offer math games for elementary, middle and high school students. These websites also offer advice to teachers on how to incorporate math games into the classroom learning experience. Teachers often find that the internet based math games are so motivating to students that being allowed to play them can be used as a motivating reward to getting other classroom work done.
