Children and Holidays
It is such fun to combine children and holidays. All of the festivities that surround holidays are even more exciting when children are involved. Children and holidays go together so naturally. When thinking about decorating for holidays, what better addition to any space is there than sweet handmade items created by children? They are so endearing that there has been an effort in the commercial world to reproduce the look of an item that could have been made by a child for people who don't have children in their lives to help them celebrate the holidays with. Take for instance, greeting cards. And in particular, Christmas cards. So many commercially produced Christmas holiday cards display images that were drawn or painted by children. This is just one of the ways that children and holidays go together. Another reason we tend to combine children and holidays is in the planning of treats and the exchange or giving of gifts. It is so much fun to plan surprises for children at the holidays. With the help of characters like Santa Claus and The Easter Bunny, children have been entertained and even coerced by the imaginings of what each might deliver to their very own house or by dreading the possibility that either might overlook them due to misbehavior. In these cases, children are really being exploited by the holidays. But if you are lucky enough to have children in your life by either your profession or by family, you already know how great it is to participate in holiday celebrations with children. There are endless opportunities to be creative with children and holidays. And this gives adults a legitimate excuse to be childish themselves when it is holiday season. Art projects and cooking projects are just two of the fun activities that can center around children during the holidays. Also, special outings to exhibits and performances are such a great experience during the holiday season when children can be taken along. Their innocent amazement at the wonder of it all makes involving children in the holiday celebrations. And even holidays that are more adult oriented like Valentine's day, that celebrates love and relationships, has also included children. Children can give Valentine holiday cards to each other as friends. This is actually modeling adult behavior and preparing children for later on when they might be a love relationship as young adults and expressing those feelings on that particular holiday. Children have play a very important part in Birthday celebrations. One's birthday can often be the most important holiday of the year to a person. And children are treated as extremely important on the event of their birthday holiday. Halloween is another holiday that capitalizes on the joys and fun of children. Children dress up in costume for this holiday and are treated to candy and other sweets by almost everyone who sees the little children dressed for the holiday. So it is plain to see that children and holidays go hand in hand and always will be essential to each other.
