Holiday Costumes
Holiday costumes are not just for Halloween. Holiday costumes can be fun and appropriate for many holidays. And people of all ages can dress up in holiday costumes. Just about every holiday give you an opportunity to wear costumes, especially for children and teachers and hospital workers or anyone who wants to cheer people up or entertain or even educate. Holiday costumes are a wonderful and creative way to accomplish these things. Take the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving. Whether or not you subscribe to the "historical" accounts of the actual "first" Thanksgiving celebrated by the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, Thanksgiving is universally accepted on some level my U.S. citizens. Some of the holiday costumes worn for this occasion are Pilgrims outfits, Indian outfits, Turkey suits, all kinds of seasonal vegetables and even just a simple hat, be it a serious reproduction or a silly cap with a turkey gobble affixed to it somewhere. Another holiday costume opportunity is around Christmas. Pageants are performed, reenacting biblical events, dressing up like angels, and of course, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and all the elves and reindeer as well. Often Schools and churches prepare and perform shows for this holiday and the holiday costumes are a huge part of it. In elementary school, children make their own versions of holiday costumes. This holiday costume making takes form in the way of paper hats, masks and even face paint. This brings us to another holiday that demands costumes, in fact two such holidays come to mind. First, there is Halloween. There is a huge industry dedicated to Halloween costumes and the sky is the limit in terms of selection for holiday costumes at Halloween. Children and adults all like the classics like witches, devils, ghouls and goblins, ghosts and skeletons, ballerinas and clowns and every sort of cartoon, animal, literary, historic and fantastic character imaginable. As with all holiday costumes, they can be purchased, rented or homemade. Whatever suits your fancy. And then, let us not forget Mardi Gras, perhaps the holiday with the most elaborate and extravagant costumes thinkable. Flamboyant is a word that might apply when you think of Mardi Gras holiday costumes. Some with headdresses that span eight feet and weigh many pounds and require months of practice supporting and wearing them with balance and grace. Some of the Mardi Gras holiday costumes are scanty little strings of sequence and beads with a feathery mask. Some are ball gowns with large full skirts and long trains. And some Mardi Gras holiday costumes are very traditional in a cultural sense like traditional Caribbean dance costumes or African costumes as well as things like bikinis for the body and large flower blossom head pieces. There is no end to the array of Mardi Gras or Carnival holiday costumes and no limit to their costs as well. But you will be amazed at the variety of Mardi Gras holiday costumes that can be seen around the world. So it is clear that how you create and wear your holiday costumes is strictly up to you. You can find guidance about design and resources for your holiday costumes on the hundreds of thousands of sites when you search for holiday costumes or at your local party or costume store. And remember holiday costumes aren't just for kids and they aren't just for Halloween, Everyone and every holiday can give reason to dress up in a holiday costume.
